Norstar Petroleum Inc. is a family-owned oil and gas exploration and production company founded by Per Burchardt in 1989. The company is located near Denver, Colorado. As of 2021, Norstar operates over 80 oil and gas wells and is an active driller in Kansas and Nebraska. Norstar and its affiliated companies also have non-operated interests in another 250 wells in Kansas and Oklahoma.

 

Norstar started out as an acquisition and enhanced recovery company. It began participating in drilling opportunities in 2001 and has gradually increased activity since becoming an active operator in Kansas in 2005. More recently, Norstar became an operator in the Nebraska panhandle. The company has previously drilled or participated in wells in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio. Norstar also has experience in various coal bed methane projects and processing plants.

 

Norstar utilizes contract geology, geophysics, and legal support as needed. Engineering and land services are performed in house.  The company’s engineers include a Registered Professional Engineer and an expert in reservoir engineering and waterflooding. Norstar’s Land Manager is a Certified Professional Landman with over 45 years of experience and has an excellent rapport with landowners.

 

Norstar enjoys long established relationships with both private investors and industry partners. Norstar only operates projects in which it has ownership and strives to work with its investors, listening to feedback and ideas. As a small, engineering focused operating company, Norstar can keep overhead low while closely monitoring its wells. Being mindful of our investors’ cash flow and fluctuating prices is an integral part of how we operate.
